A referendum Sunday showed a planned Japanese military base on Yonaguni, Japan's westernmost island, has strong support from the people there, clearing the way for its construction. Yonaguni is on the front lines of maritime tensions between China and Japan, which have prompted Tokyo to build up defense in its southwestern waters. Yonaguni is located 100 miles from Japan's Senkaku (also called Diaoyu by China) and 110 miles from Taiwan.

Yonaguni

By stationing troops on Yonaguni, Japan, in conjunction with the USA, will pave the way for Taiwan's independence which in turn promote the Hong Kong Independence Movement.
